Thank you to all the Clubs hosting our 2024 County Fixtures, we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. These competitions are open to all County members and are a great way to meet other ladies and play on some of our fantastic courses. The County Championships are to be held over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend 25-27th May at Ulverston Golf Club with something for everybody with our new 18 hole competition alongside the 36 hole Championship, the Girls Championship, the Division Two (Bronze Championship) and the Team Event.

This is a fantastic event to watch, the sea of orange supporters is a welcome sight to the players they thrive on your support. Come along I am sure you will see some wonderful golf and we look forward to seeing many of you there.

We are in the process of changing the way you enter our competitions a more automated system through Intelligent Golf. Once up and running the Competitions Secretary will be sending further details. Keep checking the website and Social Media for our latest news.

With the absence of a CJO, Angela Ellwood our County Treasurer is heading a small team of Executive members working very hard to develop a Junior Strategy and Pathway helping secure the future.

Presidents Message 2024

It gives me great pleasure to take on the role of County President for the next two years and look forward to welcoming all players to my home club Penrith in 2024, especially when we host the One Day Team Trophy in June.

I started my golf journey rather later in life by taking lessons with the Penrith Golf Club professional at night classes in the local school gym with a doormat, plastic ball and borrowed clubs. After this inauspicious start, I soon found that I loved the game of golf and have been a member at Penrith Golf Club for the last 34 years. Over those enjoyable years, I have had the honour of being Lady Captain and have served many years on the ladies committee plus holding the position of treasurer and two terms as secretary.

At County level, I first became involved as a delegate and was thrilled to be asked to help at NCMW hosted by Cumbria, held at Seascale in 2004. This gave me the taste to support County Golf, by trolley pulling, supporting and watching our team at numerous Match weeks and eventually having the honour of fulfilling the role of County Captain in 2014. My home club Penrith then went on to host NCMW in 2016; a very busy few months being involved with the preparation for Match week under the guidance of Christine Brown who was the Northern Delegate at that time. Currently I enter my fourth year as Silver Handicap League secretary.

Holding any position whether at Club or County level has given me the opportunity to meet many fellow golfers and form long lasting friendships.

I will endeavour to fulfil the role to the best of my ability and look forward to working with County Captain Ruth, Vice Captain Val, and all the
Executive Committee, supporting a busy 2024 golfing calendar and watching our future golfers’ progress.

I wish you all a successful golfing year.

Linda Young
