The Squad named for County coaching 2009

The squad goes back to school, with the first
session of coaching taking place at Carlisle Golf Club on Sunday,
18th January, 2009 with a lecture and workshop by Dr. John Pates,
Sports Psychologist on the European Tour assisted by Graeme Lisle,
Head Professional, Carlisle Golf Club.
The squad's coaching given by Graeme Lisle,
Professional at Carlisle Golf Club is well under way in preparation for
match week at Heswall. A total of 5 full day sessions was
organised during the period Jan - April which was made possible
through monies raised from local sponsorship. Handicap reductions
are already being seen, which bodes well for the high expectations for
the Cumbria Team this year.
The first fixture of the season took place at Carlisle Golf Club on
Sunday 22nd March, 2009 which is an annual match against the Men's
Team. Although the Ladies succumbed again to a very strong
Men's team, the experience proved to be invaluable with the first
look at pairings for match week.
This was closely followed in April by the friendly
match against Northumberland at Appleby Golf Club. The course
was in very good condition for the time of year, and the greens
exceptional. The friendliness and hospitality of the club were
given special mention by the Northumberland County Captain, even
though their day was marred by a Cumbria victory.
Sunday 26th April saw the Ladies playing a match
against the County Vets at Seascale. This match is always
closely rivalled with past members of the County Team now playing
for the Vets, but always played in very goods spirits. The
results of the pre-season coaching were beginning to be displayed
and proved too much for the Vets and the Ladies had their second
victory. Special mention goes to Nicola Tebbutt who had a hole
in one on the 10th.

Annual match County Ladies -v- County Seniors
Ulverston Golf Club - 4th May, 2009
The annual match against the County Seniors
took place at Ulverston Golf Club on Monday, 4th May. The
day started with the morning foursomes, and although the
match began in dry, but very windy conditions, the
weather soon worsened with driving rain. Despite the
extreme conditions, both teams displayed good golfing
skills, with the Seniors having the upper hand before
lunch with a 4 - 2 lead. A decision was made to restrict the
afternoon singles to only 10 holes as the weather worsened.
The ladies took 6 of the singles, but it was not enough to
make up the shortfall from the morning and the match ended
10 - 8 to the County Seniors.
